New to Football?

So your child is keen to give football a go?
Great, let's talk you through it.

HHFC LOGO

Hornsby Heights FC plays in the Northern Suburbs Football Association Competition.

Games are Saturday morning for our Mixed teams (boys and girls) or Sunday morning for our Girl's only teams. Players must register and pay online before grading to guarantee a placement in a team. Registration opens in January (see Registration for further information and the online registration link).

How do we support our players?

Every U6 to U11 Hornsby Heights registered player will have professional coaching with our training partners Kano Football. Training is one afternoon a week across our 16 week in-season program (April to August). This is included in your registration fee.

Professional coaches and development programs will enhance your child’s confidence, ball manipulation, ball mastery and 1v1 skills. Following the FFA Curriculum – players will build skills and confidence with the ball across the four key skill elements – 1v1, Running with the Ball, Striking & Passing the Ball and First Touch.

Our home ground – Montview Oval – has field sizes that span multiple age groups. Montview Oval has recently had a light upgrade for a better night training experience. We are also able to host night games for our senior teams.

MiniRoos (U6 – U11) Non-Competition

MiniRoos football encompasses Under 6’s to Under 11’s, with players taking part in small sided games with modified field sizes and playing numbers. As a player progresses through the MiniRoos age groups the field size increases as well as player numbers, preparing them eventually for the full size field version of 11v11 football that we see being played in the A-League every weekend.

More Information on MiniRoos can be found on the NSFA website:

Girls U6/U7 Football Hub

Hornsby Heights is proud to be part of the NSFA initiative to grow female participation in Football. Our G6/G7 girls play every Sunday morning in the "North Hub".

Our G6's alternate between Foxglove and Auluba Ovals, and our G7's  alternate between Montview and Aluba Ovals.

Here they are supervised by XLR8 Player Development coaches. Each week they start off with some ball mastery exercises before splitting off into small-sided games.

Our training partners, Kano run sessions for the younger children. Please click on this link for more information: https://kano-football.com.au/

If your child is turning 8 during the season/year - you should register them into the U8 age group etc.

When is Game Day

For Mixed teams game day is generally Saturday. Although, because grounds are getting busier and busier you may find some games scheduled for Sunday or mid week.

Generally speaking:-

Miniroos/Youth Saturday AM.

Girls - Sunday AM

Seniors - Saturday / Sunday PM

On what nights do the teams train?

Some combination of Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday nights at Montview Oval in Kookaburra Place Hornsby Heights or Rofe Park, Galston Road, Hornsby Heights. Until teams are formed, we do not know what day or time your child will be allocated. We aim for a "best fit" for the team approach to team training allocations.

What if my team trains on a day that I have prior commitments?

No problems, we understand it is difficult to accommodate everyone. If there is a genuine clash of activities, you are able to apply to train with another team in your age group. This is dependent on maximum numbers per training slot.

How long does the season go for?

Grading is held in February. Training usually starts in March. (Development squads player placement start at the end of the previous season). Games usually commence in the 1st week of April and continue until the final week of August.

Who does the coaching?

All of our Under 6 to Under 11 teams receive one nights training a week with Kano Football which is included in your registration fee. We embedded Kano as our core coaching provider back in 2015 and the feedback has been spectacular. To see some of the skills in action on game day is a direct reflection of the high-quality coaching instruction and curriculum offered by Kano. Some U6 to U11 teams then opt to have a second team training session with a parent coach but this is optional.

The Super League and Diamond League Teams will receive coaching from Northern Tigers XLR8 and a coach with a minimum FFA Coaching Accreditation at either Skill Training Certificate or Game Training Certificate level.

All other teams also have the option of joining a development squad and we have additional Northern Tigers XLR8 coaching resources available to address this need.

All teams require a parent or other interested club member to take on the role of game day coach. NSFA have set up a number of courses free to all members who wish to give coaching a go. https://nsfa.asn.au/coaches/education/

When do we register?

Online Self Registration will be open in early January via www.myfootballclub.com.au. Please ensure you select “Hornsby Heights Sports Club” as HHFC is a part of the Sports Club. Grading will take place in February and all pre-registered players will be advised further details via email. Although we are always happy to try and accommodate all players, we cannot guarantee placement in a team if your child is not registered before grading day.

If you are thinking of taking up football for the first time or considering HHFC as your new club and would like an email reminder when our next season registrations are officially open then please send an email to registrar@hhfc.org.au.

How can I help?

Our club is run by a terrific bunch of volunteers. As such, we are always looking for people to come on board and help us out in all sorts of ways. We have a committee that works on the smooth running of the club, and if you want to help and make a new bunch of friends here we are! After grading we will be looking for one or two team coaches and a team manager.

We run a roster for teams to run the BBQ and help put up and bring down the nets on weekends.

Just a reminder that everyone you come across is volunteering their time to help your children have a fun experience playing football. When interacting with our volunteers please give them the respect they deserve.

If you would like to join our committee, come to a meeting to see what it's all about, or think you can help our Club in any other way, please feel free to email our Club President: president@hhfc.org.au
