The HHFC Parents Pledge

Updated 29 Januray 2024

Hornsby Heights Football Club (HHFC) has implemented a Code of Conduct for all its stakeholders. Please make yourself familiar with the Code of Conduct as it applies to you as a parent.

Our Commitment

At HHFC we put just as much emphasis on how we conduct ourselves both on and off the field as developing your child. Ensuring appropriate conduct of HHFC players and parents means that we continue to build on the HHFC culture that has been built over the many years of our history.  HHFC is, and has always been committed to providing a safe and enjoyable environment for its members and supporters and we’d like you to be a part of continuing to build the culture of our club by acknowledging that you understand what appropriate behavior means. We’ve taken the time to outline the key principles that we believe players, parents and spectators should base their sporting involvement on. We ask you to review and ensure that you understand them.

What HHFC ask of the parents:

  1. Create a positive atmosphere for the players, officials and other spectators by showing them respect. This means that you will respect official’s decisions and judgement (coaches, managers, referees and linesmen) and teach your child to do likewise. If you disagree with an official, raise the issue through the appropriate channels rather than question the official’s judgment and honesty in public. Remember, most officials volunteer their time and effort for your child’s enjoyment.

  2. Understand that children are actually human and they, like all of us, will make mistakes. Powerful lessons come from making mistakes and mocking or yelling at a child (even your own) for making a mistake or losing the game is not appropriate.

  3. Never engage in harassment of vilification of others, there are appropriate channels for complaints and escalation which the HHFC will provide support with.

  4. Understand your child is playing as part of a team and instructing your child on the field will always come from the coach. Subsequently, you will refrain from instructing your child from the sideline.

  5. Understand the importance of good sportsmanship and instill this value in children through applauding good plays by both teams and encouraging children to always play according to the rules.

What will happen with non-compliance:

Breaches of the Parents Pledge and/or the Code of Conduct may result in:

  • A verbal reminder of your obligations.

  • A written reminder and warning of obligations.

  • Removal of your child from participating in the game until issue is resolved.

  • In extreme cases, either suspension or termination from Hornsby Heights Football Club.

I understand and remain committed to uphold the Parents Pledge in order to maintain the culture and values of the Hornsby Heights Football Club so as to provide the best platform for my child to both enjoy and succeed throughout the season.

HHFC would like to thank our parents for conforming with the above pledge, with the aim of a safe and enjoyable football experience for all.
